Playing Cards for the Blind use standard playing cards which have been adapted for use by blind and visually impaired card players. The cards are notched on the edges to allow a visually impaired player to quickly determine the suit and denomination of the card. The cards are an alternative to braille playing cards. See youtube video at https://youtu.be/M2AtV8CI03k. Braille cards may be difficult to use for older card players (and those with neuropathy in their finger tips ). Playing Cards for the Blind may be used for a variety of card games and adapt well to Euchre, Cribbage, Poker, Tricks, War, etc. The primary difference in the play of card games with Playing Cards for the Blind is that players verbally identify (out loud) the card which they are playing.
-Design of Cards: Playing Cards for the Blind have small notches one the edge of the card which allow the blind player to quickly determine which cards are in their hand. The notch system allow for the identification of the cards by using a minimum of marks or alterations to the cards. The marking system is normally learned quickly. With practice, a blind individual may play various cards games with little delay or confusion. The cards are now being used in the USA, Canada, England, France, Germany and several other countries.

History: In 2013, a lady who had gone blind was going to a counselor at a center for the blind. When the counselor ask her what she missed most from the days when she could see, she responded that she really missed playing cards (specifically euchre) with her friends. The counselor had just heard about euchre cards which worked for the blind and explained this to his client. She was brought to tears when she tried the cards which she easily was able to use. She is now back at the card table. I invented the euchre cards in 2006 when my father, Richard, lost the last of his vision. I am now distributing the cards internationally to help blind and visually impaired individuals enjoy recreational time through playing cards. Many recall euchre from their college days. Euchre Cards for the Blind were the first cards design using the notch marking system. Euchre is very popular in the Midwest and in the Armed Forces. My father, Richard , loved playing card games, especially Eurhre. He is very sharp at 95 and stopped playing cards 13 years ago due to blindness. My father easily learned to use the euchre cards and now plays regularly. The notch system on the cards is easily mastered in about 30 minutes. “KEEP IT SIMPLE” IS THE MAIN IDEA IN THE NOTCH SYSTEM. The small notch on the top edge of the card informs the blind card payer the suit of the card. The notch along the side tells the denomiination (ace, king, etc) of the card. The primary goal of this project is to allow visually impaired individuals to relax and have fun. The more simple the system, the easier and more relaxing it is to play. After playing euchre with my father for six years, I was encouraged to make the cards available to a larger number of blind and visually impaired individuals. The story of the woman mention above inspired me to move forward in producing many decks of the cards. In 2015 full decks of 52 cards were designed (Euchre uses only 24 cards). I am happy to give instructions for using the cards via phone or email. ALL INCOME FROM THE SALE OF CARDS IS USED TO PAY EXPENSES AND PROVIDE CARDS FOR INDIVIDUALS OR GROUPS WHO SERVE THE BLIND. THE CARDS WORK, PLEASE GIVE A VISUALLY IMPAIRED PERSON WHO YOU CARE ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY TO ENJOY PLAYING CARDS. Also see the listing for Euchre Cards for the Blind. Euchre is a card game which uses a hand of 5 cards. The small number of cards allows a visually impaired individual to determine which card to play fast enough to enjoyably participate in a game.

Very fast shipping and the instructions seem pretty easy to learn. Such a clever way to make cards for the visually impaired that's not braille. Can't wait to try them out with my dad.
