Here is Gajendra the elephant. He is not only in a heavy body; he is in a heavy situation. The crocodile on the bottom right, being a creature of the water, is gradually overpowering Gajendra. Realizing his weak position, Gajendra offers eloquent prayers, and a lotus flower, to his protector (Vishnu). This wonderful story is recorded in the Srimad Bhagavatam, the ancient text filled with melodious Sanskrit poetry and hymns. "Gajendra the Elephant" is an 11 by 11 inch linocut, printed on Arches cream printmaking paper.

Every hand pulled print is signed in pencil, titled, and has a limited edition number. The physical act of creating a linocut involves multiple steps: drawing and designing, carving and gouging, handling paper, rolling the ink, and so on. Every step is done by me, and every linocut in the edition is slightly unique.

This piece is packaged in a clear protective bag with a backing for stability. Due to its large size, this piece is shipped in a box.
