Sunflower and Gerbera Daisy Knitting Pattern
Digital file type(s): 1 PDF
When complete, the sunflower is nearly as large as an actual sunflower. The Gerbera Daisy is the same pattern, just sized smaller. This is a challenging pattern with very unusual construction, so only the most intrepid knitter should give it a shot! The flower is knit in one piece, then felting. There is no fussy piecing of petals in this pattern.
Use a 100% worsted weight wool or a wool blend that will felt. For the flowers shown, we
used Cascade Yarn's 220 line. The Sunflower calls for 100 yards for the green stem and leaf, 75 yards of yellow for the petals and 15 yards of brown for the center. The Daisy calls for 80 yards for the green stem and leaf, 55 yards for the petals and 7 yards of yellow for the center.
Size 10, 16” circulars (Sunflower only), size 10 double point needles, stitch markers, a yarn
needle, stoppers (optional, Sunflower only), a small square of batting, 18 gauge, 18” florist
wire, and a spare length of ribbon and a couple of safety pins for felting the stem.
This pattern includes instructions for two flowers: a full-sized Sunflower with a stem
and, in parenthesis, a Gerbera Daisy with a stem. There are also directions for a leaf.
