Rostower Finift (Rostower Enamel)
is a painting with ceramic colors on lacquered copper sheet. These handicrafts are known in Russia under the ancient Russian name Finift – for enamel. The word "Finift" derives from Greek fingitis – "bright shiny stone". The most famous in Russia is Finift from Rostov. Since the production of enamel works in Rostov has a centuries-long tradition, the enamel works from Rostov are considered to be the best in Russia.
This miniature painting on enamel is made of transparent, refractory paints applied to copper and coated with enamel. Finift, also known as "fire painting", never fades and never loses its shine, just like all enamel or glass works. (Wikipedia)
