Description

I made the original design for this squid piece for the first ever Steampunk Convention, which was held in the Bay Area a few years ago. We sold out of all of them at the show, so I made more. This pendant is sterling silver, but I also make them in bronze.

My wife says I did a wonderful job giving personality to the squid's eyes.

There were ancient legends in Scandinavia about giant squid, called Kraken, that were believed to wrap their arms and tentacles around ships and drag them to the bottom of the sea.

An episode in Jules Verne’s book “Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea” where a giant squid attempted to crush and destroy the Nautilus, Captain Nemo’s submarine, was based on this legend.

This pendant piece is hard to measure. Plus when I make it in sterling silver I usually make the feeding tentacles a little longer and position them a bit differently than when I make this pendant in bronze. It is about 2 inches long, not including loops, and about 1/2 inch at the widest part of the tail. Comes with an adjustable black silky cord.

For more information on how I create my jewelry, please look at my Profile.

California orders will be charged sales tax.

If you have any questions, please send me an Etsy Conversation.

Shipping policies

We will ship anywhere in the United States for US$4.75 for First Class, Insured Mail. We also offer Insured Priority Mail for US$8.00. If you purchase more than one item, I am happy to ship them all together and the shipping will stay the same.

As I write this in March, 2016 the United States Postal Service has recently increased their shipping rates for international packages. Up to now we have been able to mail small packages to most places in the world for about US$7.00. My wife and I were really surprised recently when I sent a package to Canada and it cost over US$9.00. Then we got an order from the UK and it cost US$13.50 to mail it! I wish we didn’t have to, but we are raising our rates for international shipping to cover these increased costs.

Insurance for international mail is available but it is very expensive. The price can be as much or more than the cost of the item ordered. However, if you choose not to insure, then I cannot be held responsible for lost or stolen shipments.

Please note all customs duties and fees are the responsibility of the buyer.

I am slowly adding international shipping locations, but it will take some time.

Please send me an Etsy Conversation if you live outside the US and you are interested in ordering, and shipping costs to your country is not yet listed. I will send you an Etsy Conversation listing the costs to ship.
