Description

Approx. size 10x11.5 cm or 4"x4"1/4 inches

The teal-turquoise crystals on this item have not been painted or any otherwise applied onto the surface. They arose and grew within the glaze melt - on cooling of the kiln. In simplified terms, this process could be compared to the frost that grows on the windows in winter, only this happens at a much but much higher temperature (between 1100'C and 1000'C). Therefore, since these crystals are glaze-born, they make a permanent component of the glaze and as such will not fade, change or disappear with time, whereas each successfully fired piece comes out unrepeatable and unique in its distribution of crystals as well as their shape and size.

Unlike with the crystalline glazed trays, plates and similar flat items, with the crystalline glazed vases there is a huge bit of extra work, which is to separate them from the kiln shelf without braking and then (if successful) to grind the vessels' foot rings flat so that they don't wobble or rock on the table. Each one of these steps is really critical for the many chances to break and loose the piece.

The surface of this particular vase is rather difficult to describe: it is kind of glossy rather than semi-satin, yet not dazzling shiny, so you can really see and enjoy the crystals under any angle of light.

Most of my glazes are said to be unusual, although I always compose them using the most common raw materials. It’s just like with cooking according to a given recipe – the actual results depend largely on the process rather than purely on the ingredients.

Once processed, your order is aimed to be delivered within 2 to 3 working days within the UK and 5 to 7 working days to the rest of the world.
