This decorative Japanese hand-painted bowl has a sweet village scene painted on it and is

It is marked Hand Painted JAPAN and are stamped with a "Cherry Blossom" mark holding the letter "H"

It stands 2" tall and are just under 15.75" across the lip at the widest part. There are two holes on either side which may have held some kind of bamboo handle or been used to display the piece on a wall.

It is in good vintage condition with no crazing. There are several tiny fleabites and one full chip on the rim of the dish. The chip does not detract from the looks of the bowl however.

I found the following information about the Cherry Blossom mark on Japanese porcelain.

"Cherry Blossom in the shape of five "M". Mark sub-contracted to independent companies making porcelain for the USA Market, by the Nippon Toki Kasha Company (Noritake Company). Date: c 1924."

and specifically the one with the "H" "Might be of the Hotta Yu Shoten & Co. The use of the word "Shoten" indicates the name for a shop which is selling products from its own kiln. In either case they seems to have went out of business in 1947. This mark likely to be from the 1920-30's
