Description

It's art! It's furniture! It's BOTH! This chair has been affectionately called the "Hair Chair" in our house due to it's fun hair-on cowhide seat!

The story of the Hair Chair - The chair itself was found in an old building on my family's ranch. I think it had been a rocker back in its prime. I've always loved the unique spindles and fun shape, but someone had sawed the legs very short and the seat was no longer intact. It sat in my garage for a few years until I came across a late 1800's kitchen stove in our junk pile; the porcelain enamel kind. There wasn't much left of the stove say the legs and I decided then that the legs would be pretty neat on the old chair.

The chair was lightly sanded to remove old dirt and debris; most of the finish had come off over the years. I then stained the chair with a weathered gray stain. Since the "new" legs were a seafoam green color, I decided to glaze the stained wood with a seafoam tinted glaze. The tint is very subtle and it added some fun color to the finished product! The seat was remade using the existing steel straps, foam, natural cotton batting, hair-on cowhide and decorative upholstery tacks. The porcelain stove legs were screwed on with self-tapping screws.

The chair is by no means perfect and is pretty industrial/utilitarian and that's what makes it so fun and unique. It is fully functional and sturdy; it has been reinforced with wire supports and embellished with jute twine.

This is your chance to own a one-of-a-kind piece of furniture art from the Nebraska Sandhills! It will add a touch of rustic and industrial charm to your home!

The price is for local pickup but shipping within the continental United States can be arranged beforehand upon buyer's request.

Thank you for looking!
