Description

American Glory Applique Quilt made from a Paragon kit is beautifully executed in solid red, green print, and yellow calico on solid ecru ground. The kit was produced in the early 1960s and included the fabrics needed for the appliqué design as well as the solid ecru base for the quilt that was stamped with the pattern for appliquéing and markings to guide the hand quilting. The back of the quilt is solid ecru cotton. The batting is cotton. The binding is the green print used in the body of the quilt. The quilt is 78 inches by 96 inches and fits well on a full size bed, or it will be a wonderful quilt displayed on a wall or folded on a sofa or quilt rack.

The first photo is taken outside in natural light. The colors in this quilt are still vivid and the quilt is in excellent condition, with no stains, areas of wear, or fading. The dark streaks in the bottom right of the photo are iris leaves. This quilt is long and the quilt was on a line hanging to the ground. The second photo shows the quilt on a full size bed. The drop on all of the sides is quite generous and the quilt could also be used on a queen bed. The third photo shows a closer view of the quilt on the bed. The fourth photo shows the eagle center medallion and the surrounding floral vines. The workmanship of the appliqué work is really very fine, and the hand quilting is very, very nice. The fifth photo shows even more detail of the center eagle motif. The sixth photo shows another area of the beautiful appliqué work found on the quilt. The colors shown in this photo are very accurate. Notice the expert workmanship of the needle-turn appliqué as well as the precise hand quilting. The seventh photo shows a part of the quilt folded over to reveal the back. The final photo shows the top edge of the quilt, where machine stitching holes are still evident from a time when a previous owner made a hanging sleeve for the quilt. These machine stitching holes are evident along the top edge only. Upon very close inspection, you might be able to see a very small tear about three-eighths of an inch long that was created when the hanging sleeve was removed. This small hole is just to the left above the finger-hold of the scissors and is the only flaw in the quilt that I can see.
