Rare and beautiful figure of a cat graces this wonderful silver plated napkin holder ring from a bygone era when these were a popular Victorian gift item for weddings, christenings and birthdays.

These were not made for the rich as they had a hired laundress and could afford to have a clean napkin at every meal, rather these were for the table of those who used one napkin between wash days. They would roll their napkin after a meal and store it in their very own napkin holder to distinguish who's was who's as each family member had a different ring. They were either engraved with the persons name or initials or were figural like this rare cat.

This cat is in a sitting position and his body is the ring with the head above and the hindquarters below. The ring is engraved with a bird motif on the front and a floral design on the back. This wonderful piece has orangy yellow glass eyes which seem to follow your gaze as he is turned.

The piece is at least 100 yrs old and does show age in it's wear, patina and the ring has been bumped. I love the look of tarnished silver. The next owner may polish it to it's original luster, if so desired.

This highly sought after collectible would make a wonderful addition to a napkin ring collection, would look equally beautiful on the shabby chic or an elegantly set table, or perhaps sitting on a table or shelf with those unblinking eyes peering out. It's an amazing piece which would make wonderful wedding or Halloween decor.
