Description

Thank you for stopping by my shop.
This is a large beautiful, colorful Natural Edge Ash wood bowl that I recently turned. When I started turning this bowl on my lathe I was surprised at the combination of colors throughout the bowl. There are yellow and gold tones mixed with a strikingly beautiful brown grain. This large bowl was turned from a piece of Ash from a fallen tree. The bowl was turned wet to its initial thickness of approximately one inch and then painstakingly dried over time. As with all bowls that are turned from "wet" wood it took on its own unique shape in the drying process. I remounted the dried bowl to my lathe and turned it to its beautifully natural oval shape and final thickness of approximately 1/4 inch. The piece is a very nice size and measures approximately 12 inches in diameter at its widest by 11 inches across and is approximately 6 1/2 inches tall at either end. I have also signed and dated the bottom. The natural edge is strikingly beautiful and rustic.
Ash wood is tough and very strong but elastic, extensively used for making bows, tool handles, baseball bats, electric guitar bodies and other uses demanding high strength and resilience.
The bowl has been finished with a cellulose sealer and several coats of a beautiful and durable gloss lacquer. The bowl is perfect for holding fruit, ornaments or flowers or can be displayed on its own as a beautiful piece of home décor.
Thank you again. Tim
