MariNaomi calls NMSD her "favorite long-running anthology". Joe Decie boldly states that he "wouldn't be drawing comics if it weren't for NMSD." John Porcellino (King Cat) calls Not My Small Diary “One of the most important comic-zines in history.”
Joe Biel says “NMSD is a landmark and barometer for quality in the genre and I have discovered many favorite artists in these pages.”
Xerography Debt states “Every issue of NMSD is like a Who’s Who of the comic/zine world. Worth every penny. NMSD never disappoints.”
"Zine queen Delaine Derry Green's NMSD has been the gold standard for memoir comics anthologies for over twenty years. In that time, each issue has become ever more ambitious, boasting a who's-who of comics autobio luminaries. With the new nineteenth volume, Green has outdone herself, as the artists tackle the theme of unexplained events. It's a book that reveals Green's considerable skill as a curator and editor, as she carefully balances the mood and flow of this highly entertaining volume." - Rob Clough, The Comics Journal, TCJ.com, High-Low
“For a sampling of some of the best independent cartoonists today, one great source is the NOT MY SMALL DIARY anthology. This is a fascinating book and a must-read for anyone interested in contemporary comics. Each artist you visit here is like a little island unto itself.” - Henry Chamberlain, Comics Grinder, comicsgrinder.com
“Editor Delaine Derry Green and her cohort of storytellers expose the cracks in the thin veneer separating this dimension of reality from the next. From the first hair-raising story to the last, Not My Small Diary #19 is a staccato delivery of twist endings, reincarnated pets, and humorous superstitions existing in a mostly invisible layer on the edge of our consciousness.” - Justin Giampioli, Comics Bulletin, comicsbulletin.com
Not My Small Diary began in 1996 as an offshoot of Delaine Derry Green’s zine, My Small Diary, and the idea is simple: autobiographical stories presented in comic form. Not My Small Diary has been inducted into the Zine Hall of Fame and was featured in shows such as “Dark Matter” at the Baltimore Museum of Art, 2004; “Art of Zines 04” at the San Jose Museum of Art, 2004; “Dear Diary: The Autobiographical Comic Book” at the Athens Institute of Contemporary Art, 2006; and “Art of Zines” at the Anno Domini Gallery, San Jose, 2009. Small Diary publications have been sold at City Lights Bookstore, traveled across the US and Canada aboard the Mobilivre traveling bookmobile and are part of several library collections located in New York, Denver, Seattle, Utah and more. Not My Small Diary 17 was required text at Penn State University for a class in the College of Education.
