"BLOSSOM" with PINK flowers - an adorable 1940s Vintage Reproduction
Made from an original vintage 1944 McCall pattern. I have modernised this dress by adding a side zip instead of the underlap and snaps. I have also overlocked all the seams - not cut with pinking shears as advised in the pattern instructions.
I have made 2 dresses for myself from this pattern and I LOVE wearing them - very comfortable and very feminine. I also receive lots of compliments.
The fabric is 100% cotton in a wonderful 30s /40s Reproduction print. It has an Art Deco background of black lines and circles on white with pink, white, gold and salmon coloured flowers and stems.
The dress has a gored skirt - 9 gored sections in all, fitting around the hips and flaring out at the hem - very flattering.
The bodice has a V neckline with princess seaming and gathering in the bust area down the front seam lines. There are 3 lovely white vintage buttons down the front. The back bodice is fitted with darts at the waistline.
The sleeves are SO SWEET. They are gathered up the centre as well as at the shoulders. I love them. I often copy the gathering for some of my blouses - to give that 40s retro look. here is a small white flower button on each sleeve
The dress has small shoulder pads - for that 40s silhouette and comes with a self fabric belt with a button closure.
The dress is unlined and has a side zip.
This dress is a size 14 ( Australian) with the following measurements
