This cushion is reverse-appliqued and and features a cross motif, taken from the design of a medieval floor tile. The upper layer is made from a heavy, furnishing-weight printed linen, overlaying rich red burlap. The reverse of the cushion is made with the same red burlap.

Each one of my designs has been digitally scanned from historical sources and tidied for reproduction. Each cushion takes around 3 hours for the accurate transfer of design, stitching and then cutting of the top layer to reveal the contrasting fabric underneath.

I use reclaimed fabrics somewhere in all my work. For me, upcycling refers to remnants from old projects and other sources, such as quality homewares and remnants found in op shops (thrift stores). This saves it from going to landfill, and besides, some things are too beautiful to throw out!

From upcycled fabrics; new zip. 41cm x 41cm (16" x 16").

The raw-edged motif is designed to fray and fluff slightly to provide extra depth and texture. There is a substantial margin (about 4mm (3/16")) between stitch and raw edge, so it will not affect the wear of the item.

Note: cushion cover only, insert not supplied.

This striking cushion with its deep red cross standing out from the neutral tones would suit a wide variety of decors. It would bring rich colour and interest to very traditional and formal decor, and would be equally as comfortable in an eclectic casual country room.
