Description

These were not even common back in the 50's and 60's.. They were handed out by companies to advertise on the desk of their customers. It's a phone number and address directory that sits on one's desk under a rectangular desk phone and the user pulls out the tab to reveal first a top sheet with other community businesses and underneath that cover page are blank pages with alphabetic tabs so that the user can enter any frequently dialed numbers or addresses.

The main advertiser on this directory is the "Catskill Savings Bank" of Catskill and Ravena New York. The directory attaches to the rectangular desk phone by pulling an elastic cord up over the back of the base of the phone. This cord is still present and supple and as if new.

When pulled out the cover sheet, protected by clear plastic, contains 22 listings, presumably of business clients of the Catskill Savings Bank.

The 22 listings are:
Catskill Savings Bank "All types of savings accounts, mortgage loans"
Father & Son Auto Service "Expert Repairs - Towing"
The Cameo (beauty salon)
Herm's (body shop)
Welsh & Grey Lumber Corp.
Reliable Motors, Inc. (AMC, Pacer, Gremlin, Hornet, Matador, Jeep dealer)
Richard Knoth (electrician)
Paul Hull (excavating) "Bulldozing, Shale, Topsoil"
Colonial Strippers (Furniture Stripping) "At Tony's Boat Yard"
Walther's (House Plants)
Frank J. Porto III (Insurance General)
Warner Masonry Inc.
Distefano (Meats)
Spartan Painting Company
La Conca D'oro (Pizza)
Charles Lampman (Plumbing & Heating)
Town & Country (Restaurant)

Rip Van Winkle Antennas
George Kitchen, Inc. (Zenith, RCA, Whirlpool)
Valley Casuals (Ladies Fashions)
Kevin Berry Builder, Inc.

Underneath the cover sheet are eight lined cards each with an aphabetic tab:
ABC DEF GHIJ KLM NOP QRS TUV WYZ. These cards are still blank, having never been written on.

These directories provided a handy way to keep your frequently used number at hand without using additional desktop space nor having to hunt for a directory in drawers or buried under papers.

On the underside of the plastic is embossed "Herman Smith Ind. 1521 Pech Rd. Houston, Texas"

Approx. 8.5 X 4.5 inches
