Just look at this wool rug. It's an unique and incredible rug made of natural sheep wool only in the region of the Carpathian Mountains in Ukraine. You will not find such thing anywhere else. The texture of rug can't be repeated, because of it's handmade nature. You can use it as a rug, coverlet or picnic blanket. Anyway it warms our body and soul ❤

To make one medium sized blanket or rug we had to work long and hard. I use only natural wool from sheep that were raised in the high Carpathian mountain pastures, and natural dyes.
At first you have to wash and dry the wool thoroughly, the comb it with a special tool, which makes the wool puff up and resemble a cloud.
The combed wool is easily manipulated and made into threads (called rovnytsi), which are then used to make a lizhnyk on a loom (handmade looms are mostly used in the mountains).
The woven product is then placed in a special device – called ‘valylo’, a huge wooden barrel, narrowed down to the bottom.
Water is then piped in with great force. The flow of water rapidly rises, creating a whirlpool in which the blankets spin for hours.
After this process lizhnyks become tight and fluffy.
Later they are dried on 'zherdky', combed with a special brush to loosen the hairs.

➤ Recommended care:
Instead of wasting your time, give your blanket a nice vigorous shake, and most of the stuff stuck to it will come off :) If you accidentally spilled something like coffee or wine on it, run that area of the blanket under cold water. Once the stain has been washed out, put that spot between two towels and give it a gentle squeeze. Afterward, put the blanket on a surface where it’s going to get a lot of air and make sure to flip it periodically until it dries. In a case the item is quite dirty:
- The item made from 100% sheep wool. You should use dry clean only.
- It can be cleaned using cold or slightly warm water; the water must drain off by itself.
