Handmade item

The Mini Myth Collection® is an ever-expanding series of hand sculpted, cast and finished figures. Each Mini Myth captures a god, goddess, creature or hero from Norse mythology and presents them as a pocket-sized sculpture. Ranging in size from 2-3 inches tall (about the size of a chess piece), each one is creafted in cold-cast brass, weathered and sealed and each comes with a small story card that highlights interesting facts pertaining to the given character.

This listing includes the full set of Mini Myths produced in 2018 as well as the option to add the two 2017 Mini Myths (Thor and Odin).

The Mini Myth Collection® is also available as a monthly subscription. Details can be found at www.jorn.com under "Myth of the Month." Subscribers receive three new Mini Myths (one WAVE) to add to their collection every three months and an exclusive bonus Mini Myth at the end of each full year they remain an active subscriber. Subscriber exclusives will never be sold anywhere else.

Prefer to pick and choose? Most (but not all) of the figures will be available individually right here on ETSY or on my main site (www.jorn.com). The Mini Myth Collection® is broken out by WAVES each containing three (3) Mini Myths. So, if you are looking to pick up a few individual figures instead of the entire set, you can do this by going to the separate listing(s) for the appropriate WAVE(s). Here is the full list broken out by WAVE for your reference:

WAVE 0: 2017

Odin: The Wandering God

WAVE 1: First quarter (Jan-March) 2018

Freyr: God of Prosperity & Virility
Gullinbursti: The Golden Bristled Boar

WAVE 4: Fourth quarter (Oct-Dec) 2018

Skirnir: The Shining One (servant to Freyr)
Garm: Guardian of Hel's Gate

WAVE 5: First quarter (Jan-March) 2019
(To Be Announced)

Despite their small stature, these Mini Myths are packed with details and symbolism. Here are some examples:

• Odin has his mighty spear, Gungnir. Gungnir never misses its target and any oath made on it (even if by a God) cannot be broken. Perched on his shoulders are Hugin and Munin (thought and memory), his twin ravens who fly around the world each day and report back to Odin the news and events of the day. You will also note that he is missing his eye - a constant reminder of the sacrifice he made to obtain the secret wisdom contained in Mimmer's Well. You will also notice that, rather than looking like the king of the gods, he is dressed in a plain hooded cloak. This is Odin as the Gray Wanderer. It is in this guise that he spent much of his time, visiting humans or giants incognito (he is a clever and often shifty god after all.)

• Thor, the Norse god of thunder is perhaps the most easily recognized god of Scandinavia. He is represented with large beard and long braided hair beneath his battle helm. In his right hand, he holds his iconic hammer, Mjolnir, that never misses its target and always returns to his hand regardless of distance or obstacle. Made for him by the dwarves, no unworthy person may lift this mightiest of weapons and, in Thor's hands, it has been known to split mountains and frost giants alike and will eventually be employed to kill Jormungandr, the Midgard serpent.

• Freyja is the goddess of beauty, love and fertility, and also of war, death and seiðr (magic). She taught magic to the Aesir gods and receives half of the souls of warriors who fall in battle. She owns the beautiful necklace, Brisingamen, for which she made a scandalous deal with the four dwarves who crafted it. She also has a cloak of falcon feathers allowing her to transform into a falcon. She is sculpted with a traditional hair not and a house key hanging from her belt denoting her as the woman of a household.

• Tyr is a war god who represents the ideals of law, justice and heroic glory. He is considered the bravest of the gods having sacrificed his right hand to Fenrir who bit it off. Fenrir did this after the other gods broke their promise to release him from the unbreakable rope, Gleipnir, once he proved unable to free himself. Tyr began as the chief god in the Norse pantheon but was later usurped by Odin.

• Heimdallr is the watchman of Bifröst (the Rainbow Bridge), the passage between Asgard and Midgard. Heimdallr’s senses are so keen, he can see for a hundred miles even in darkest night and can hear the grass growing in Midgard. He carries with him the mighty Gjallarhorn, a massive horn that he will sound only once at the onset of Ragnarok to alert the gods that the final battle is upon them. He has his off-hand resting on the hilt of his sword.
