So where did the term "Luck of the Irish" originate?

The phrase "Luck of the Irish" originated during the American gold and silver rush during the 19th century. As luck would prevail on the Irish most successful miners were of Irish and Irish American decent. To name a few of the most famous were James Fair, James Flood, William O'Brien and John Mackay who hit the infamous Comstock Lode. They became known as the "Silver Kings". Soon the expression "luck of the Irish" became synonymous with the Irish and mining wealth.
