Having Mexican heritage, I have always loved the celebration of Dia de los Muertos or Day of the Dead. It is a happy occasion honoring those who have passed away. Favorite foods, drinks, music and decorations are shared and displayed in memory of loved ones who have died. It is a colorful, joyful time. It is thought that these loved ones come back to visit on this day. One of the traditional decorations is the skull or calavera. These are often made from sugar and can be eaten.

My interpretation of these calaveras is this vase with a skull design on one side and a colorful flower on the other side. If you don't want to display the skull side, you can choose to show the flower side. Then when Dia de los Muertos comes around (November 1st and 2nd) you can turn the pot around and show the calavera. Or display it during October for Halloween!

The vase is about 6 1/2 high and 4 1/2 wide at the widest point. The vase opening is approximately 2 1/2 inches wide.

Hand thrown, hand painted and fired to 1800 degrees.
