Description

Wonderful 1960s two piece dress and gauze overdress both trimmed with a satinized cotton daisy flower appliqué.

The underdress is a simple empire line lace shift which works well as dress in is own right. It fastens with a central back metal zipper which is concealed with flat grosgrain bows and hooks and eyes.
These are visible through the back opening of the overdress (see picture)

The overlayer is a fine gauze, with arching appliqués to the hem and ends of sleeves. The daisy trimming has scattered pearls at the centres (don't think any are missing particularly, I think it's just meant to be the occasional one to add texture)

The sleeves are flared and the overdress is also a-line and very floaty.

I do wonder if this was originally made as a maternity dress as would hide a bump - although equally lovely as a simple, modern dress for a more informal wedding or special occasion. Or just anyway!

Measures:
dress is trapeze shaped - could be worn for maternity to hide bump (as maybe originally intended?!)

Bust 38" max inc darts
Waist 40"
Hips 46"
S-h 34"

Overdress:
Shoulder seam to seam 14"
Bust 38"
Underarm to cuff 15"
Shoulder to hem 36"
Sleeve length

Condition: the underdress is good.
The overdress has a few clear marks and a tiny smudge to the surface as shown - I have cleaned it but they remain so although not obvious I think they're not something that will be removed, so please bear that in mind - but I don't think they would prevent me from wearing it as a formal dress.
(I think I the clear marks may be from the fabric glue which seems to have been used to attach the lace section, and then a row of daisies stitched over the edge to overlap this).
The lace had come free in parts but I have gone over it and handstitched down anything obvious so you can't tell (see close up).

Label reads : fashioned by Vi Burelson (I think is a local dressmakers little label, as assume custom made)
