The Professor
Charlotte Bronte
Illustrated by Sylvia Green
Temple Books, 1947
Light blue cloth boards with gilt and black detail to front and spine.
Charmingly illustrated book. Age related foxing and tanning, spine shows sunning and discoloration but a good tight copy.
This was the first novel by Charlotte Bronte which was published posthumously by Arthur Bell Nichols. It is the story of a young man, William Crimsworth, his loves and eventually career as a professor at an all girls school. Much of the story was based on Charlotte Bronte's experience as a teacher in Brussels and was reworked, from the perspective of a female teacher, into Bronte's novel Villette.
