Description

1.6" Demantoid Garnet Crystal 14g- Madagascar green andradite crystals on matrix. Rock & Mineral Specimen M61418
Dimensions: 1.6"x 1.1"x 1.0" inches
Weight: 14 grams
Locality: Madagascar

A nice example of green andradite garnet (demantoid), from the major find a few years back. The story goes that a fisherman in a mangrove swamp on Madagascar's northern tip noticed a few crystals in the water, and within a couple weeks the place was overrun with miners hoping to strike it rich. Work hours depended on the tides-- when the sea receded the miners would arrive, then vacate again as the tide came in, only to pump the water out of their plots the next day and repeat. This locality has been defunct for about 2-3 years now. Perfect for the mineral collector, enthusiast, or metaphysical healer.

** PLEASE NOTE: Demantoid garnets from this location show a color shift depending on the type of lighting under which they are viewed. The color is worst under incandescent bulbs, and best under daylight, or daylight equivalent lighting (as pictured.)

An attractive addition to your home, collection or office

All specimens are accompanied by a label describing the name of the mineral and the mineral's origin.
