About ORP:

This year, with the help of our partners, our goal is to plant more than one billion spat on shell to support restoration and public fishery projects. Your gift is helping to get our season off to a great start.

As you are no doubt aware, oysters are a keystone species to the Bay’s long-term ecologic recovery. They play a vital role in improving Bay health by filtering nitrogen and phosphorus from the water, and their reefs create habitat and food for a multitude of marine life. At ORP, for every $1 donated, 100 oysters are planted in the Chesapeake Bay.

This is an exciting time for the Chesapeake Bay. Over the next few months our goals are to:

Plant more than a billion spat on shell to support restoration and public fishery projects

Recycle 35,000 bushels of oyster shell from Shell Recycling Alliance members

Support local committees and individual growers with larvae, seed and shell

Participate in more than 75 community outreach programs and events

For the last 23 years our mission has remained the same – to increase the number of oysters in the Bay. We are committed to developing programs that make a difference, and searching for innovative ways to improve Bay health in the years to come. ORP continues to be recognized as a top-rated organization receiving the Maryland Nonprofit’s Standards for Excellence award, the Guidestar Exchange Seal and is an approved nonprofit with 1% for the Planet.

Again, thank you for taking action to show you care about the health of the Chesapeake Bay.
