Description

I've used colorful padauk, osage orange, walnut and other small cut-off disks to inlay in this lovely 6 1/2 x 2 1/4 in. Sycamore bowl. Beautiful for display or useful for candy/snacks. Either way will be a great piece for you to own.

The main bowl is from a very large, old Sycamore tree downed a couple of years ago in Kansas. I salvaged a lot of it and some is still drying but I wanted to use this particular block to display and inlay of many small discs of other colorful hardwoods. The Walnut if from a piece well over 40 years old just since it was harvested, The bright red, Jatoba, or Brazilian Cherry pieces are from a small log sent to me by a friend. Osage Orange, the beautiful gold color, is native to the midwest and is commonly found in old "Hedge" fence post and readily available. It is super hard and dense and is one of my favorite woods. The pinkish/reddish pieces are Western Red Cedar. Also native to the area and very easy to work with.

I hope you enjoy this piece and discover all if it's beauty.

My skills, while well honed over the years, still don't do justice to this bowl. I would call it art just to have it displayed on a mantle or table or kitchen shelf, but that would be complimenting the piece, not the craftsman. I'm am quite proud of how it turned out however.

For my turnings I generally use domestic woods that have been found and or re-purposed. I will fell a tree only if it is already dead or has otherwise been selected for removal. That being said I do have access to some exotic or woodss that I will use until they are gone. I really enjoy woodworking, particularly if it has some history to it or has been originally a piece of furniture from days gone by. Perhaps a log from a tree that I know from which part of the country it came from, or a neighbors or family member. Gives me something to ponder as I create.

NOTE: Finish is sanding sealer and several coats of hand finished clear lacquer.

Important: All finishes are durable for long term use, however the mug must be hand cleaned and immediately dried. Never soak the exterior in any liquid or clean in a dishwasher.

(Custom orders considered if we can come to terms on price and delivery.)

Other stuff:
-Shipping at current rates for lower 48, otherwise as circumstances dictate.
-I want you to be comfortable with our transaction so, if you are not, let me know and we’ll figure something out. (Remember, you are getting the exact item as pictured, and, as with all hand crafted items, perfection is not an option or guarantee.) Any returns/refunds will be determined on a case by case basis.
