Okay, that's what the lady in the booth called them. Technically, they are quartz spheres with a vapor deposited gold layer on them - the thickness determines the color, which in this case is a sea blue. Mounted on 0.050" carbon fiber arms, the sets weigh in around 5.6 grams. This makes them suitable for spinning and plying anything from laceweight to lightweight worsted singles.

These melons are beautiful! Trindleman is the future. These spindles are the most economical and modern-looking tools to make yarn, that I've ever used. I can spin in public with my non-crafting, modernist friends and not look "arcane", LOL! Thanks!
