Description

Please note: this is a costume piece, not a dunctional gas mask.

I designed the Skullbuster gas mask specifically with a post apocalyptic theme in mind. This mask is HEAVILY weathered, deconstructed and reconstructed, yet intentionally built to be as sturdy and long lasting as any of my other masks. Every Skullbuster is unique, each contains bits and pieces of some background story and no two will ever be the same.

The base color for this mask is a deep dark brown with a rich cream white skull applied by hand as if done with restricted tools.
The hardware is solid brass, with bits and bobs of copper.
All bones are real and were taken from animals found dead on my property.
The lenses are my standard dark tinted, smoke shade. They are quite easy to see through under normal interior lighting.
The suspension is an elastisized system based on the WWII U.S Navy MK IV system. It's highly adjustable, very comfortable for long term wear and quick to take off.

This is a one of a kind mask, get it while you can.

Additional policies

The vast majority of the leather I use is of vegetable tannage. Please note, veg tan leather is prone to darkening with UV exposure, this is not a defect, this is simply the nature of the material.

I try to use natural dyes whenever possible, however, I have recieved several leather lots in which the tannage is a touch off causing the leather to react oddly to those dyes forcing me to resort to factory made dyes. As such, I cannot guarantee that the item you order will be dyed with all natural materials.

The natural dyes I use are from traditional recipes and are hand made by myself from all natural, eco friendly ingredients. From time to time these dyes retain an odor after application, the black dye I use is especially prone to this, the smell is not harmful and will dissipate with time. Dissipation can be sped up by placing the item in direct sunlight in a warm breezy area.

The brown dye I use is made from locally harvested black walnuts and is based on a traditional recipe dating from the late 17th century. The darkness of this dye is reliant on the leather it is used on, one hide may achieve a deep dark brown while another will be a few shades lighter with a reddish undertone. This dye also brings out the natural imperfections contained in the leather causing them to darken and giving the piece a rustic, used look. This dye, much like the vegetable tanned leather I use, is light reactive and will darken with exposure to sunlight and UV lights such as florescent lighting. In some cases this change can occur quickly, in direct summer sunlight the dye can darken noticeably in a matter of hours. This should not be considered a defect, it is simply the nature of the dye.

The black dye I use is based on a 19th century recipe, though variations can be found dating as far back as 78 CE in the writings of Pliny the Elder. This dye gives a deep, rich black color which, depending on the leather, may have a bluish undertone. Though most people refer to it as a dye, in reality it is a chemical reagent which causes the leather to undergo a change at the molecular level. In most cases this dye leaves the leather “struck through”, meaning that the dye goes through to the core as opposed to simply soaking into the surface like store bought dyes. Unlike other black dyes, this dye will not rub off or transfer to clothing. This dye utilizes vinegar in its mixture, the smell of which may stick around for some time, as stated above, a bit of time in the sun will cause this smell to dissipate faster.

Custom colors: if custom colors are requested I will do my best to match the reference that you provide. However, it is important to remember that not only do colors vary from monitor to monitor, but also individuals perceive colors in differing ways. Again, I will do my best to match what I am given, but please expect some variations.

Brass hardware info: Unless otherwise noted all of the brass buckles, rings and rivets used on my products are solid brass or bronze. I abhor brass plated hardware and do everything I can to avoid using it.
