Description

Czech art glass vase designed by Pavel Hlava.

This Bohemian vase is made from graduated yellow and red glass with internal spikes.

It was produced at the Chlum u Trebone glassworks in 1960s Czechoslovakia and still has its original label.

It is referenced in Mark Hill's book 'Sklo' on page 46 where it states:

"A 1960s-70 Chlum u Trebone vase, designed by Pavel Hlava, with internal protruding spikes. Vases with internal hollow spikes and shaped internal protrusions were designed by Hlava from 1959 onwards, with the basic design being integrated into different body shapes during the 1960s & 70s. The designs question the form and its relationship with the internal and external spaces it creates. Although it is possible to use them practically, are they a display object sculpture , or a functional vase? The use of graduated heat-sensitive glass also draws attention to this aspect. The spikes were produced by heating certain areas of the body to make it more ductile, then inserting a hot metal rod to create the spikes."

The item is:

21cm (8 inches) high;
19cm (7.5 inches) wide;
and weighs 900g (2 pounds).

It is in excellent vintage condition with no chips, cracks, scratches or bruises.
