Description

Signature Flower Applique Quilt with orange alternating ground has 30 blocks of appliqué flowers in a wide array of colors on soft green stems and leaves. The blocks are set on point and all but 6 of the flower blocks are signed by women with endearing names such as Ila May, Vada, Thelma, Emma Jean, and Hope Frances. Each of the flowers in the 30 blocks is made with petals of a sweet print on a stem and leaves of a soft light green solid. Each of the centers of the flowers is a soft yellow. There is black embroidery thread outlining each of the flowers and the black embroidery thread is also used at the base of each block for the signature. The flower blocks are separated by alternating blocks of solid orange. The quilt is hand quilted in nice, small stitches. The flowers are outline quilted with hearts at the sides of each flower. Inside each of the solid orange alternating squares there is a beautiful hand quilted feathered wreath that fills the open area perfectly. The back of the quilt is a solid light green fabric that is folded to the front at the edges and sewn to form the binding. The color has been muted with age. The inner batting is light-weight cotton. This quilt is soft and cozy. The flowers have a folk art quality and the best way to describe the quilt is to say that it is sweet. The quilt measures 72 inches by 92 inches and it fits on a full size bed very nicely. The quilt was probably made in the 1940s or 1950s, judging by the fabrics seen in the flowers.

The first and second photos show the quilt on a full size bed. The on-point setting of the flower blocks looks really great on the bed and this quilt would also be really pretty draped over a chair or sofa, or folded at the foot of any size bed. The third photo is taken outside in natural light. There are shadows in the photo, but the actual quilt is nice and uniform in color, without fading, stains, or tears in the fabric. All of the flowers are a different print, giving the quilt lots of interest. The fourth, fifth, and sixth photos are closeups of some of the flowers. The appliqué flowers are done in a folk-art style that is very sweet. The seventh and eighth photos are turned. The ninth photo shows one of the corners folded over the solid green back, which is a soft light green color. The final photo shows the solid green back, with its soft muted color. There is one slight stain on the quilt and it is shown next to the scissors. The stain is about a half-inch in size and is not dark or prominent.
