Description

Vintage 1970's/ 80's signed sterling silver, turquoise, spiny oyster, red coral, lapis, jet, white alabaster Zuni/Navajo inlay bib necklace.

I purchased this necklace in the early 1980's at a pawn shop in Northern New Mexico. It is possibly 1970's or early 80's vintage.

It has a very modernist/ contemporary look to it which really caught my eye.

It is stamped with an artist's hallmark ( no name but a symbol) alas, I cannot track down the artist who uses that symbol. Therefore I'm not certain if the artist in Zuni or Navajo or perhaps another tribal affiliation.

All I know is this necklace is very well crafted. The stone on stone inlay of turquoise, spiny oyster, red coral, lapis lazuli, white alabaster and jet is very finely done.

The silver work is remarkable too with uniquely segmented hinged sides on the bib and all handcrafted thick silver "bars" and rings for the neck chain.

It is in excellent vintage condition. No cracked or loose stones. There are a few minor scratches on the back near the artist's hallmark, but they are not visible when worn.

It can be worn alone or with other accessories ( not included) as pictured. It is a very pretty and versatile necklace. I've received many, many compliments while wearing it.

**If you love this item, feel free to make me a reasonable price offer. I may have a lot (or just some) wiggle room on the price. It never hurts to ask! Layaway is also available.

Measurements:

Bib section is 1 inch tall at the tallest point, and is 4 3/4 inches across.

The necklace measures from one end of clasp to the other is 16 inches long.

The necklace when worn on neck measures 7 3/4 inches from top of hook clasp to bottom of bib.

The necklace is adjustable.

FAQs

Vintage Native American Jewelry has been pre-loved and worn and will show natural signs of wear. I disclose all flaws and damage but expect wear consistent with age. Untreated, natural turquoise may show color change with time but often adds to the beauty and character of the piece. Natural turquoise may also have cracks and fissures. If any stones have any significant cracks, they will be noted.

All the jewelry I have collected are one of a kind handmade items. Pieces that are unmarked with an artist hallmark often denote pre-1950's, therefore may not be marked sterling silver but has been tested as such.

Colors do vary from monitor to monitor so if color is important to you please contact me before purchasing
Vintage clothing and accessories have been pre-loved and worn and will show natural signs of wear. I disclose all flaws and damage but expect wear consistent with age such as loose or missing seam stitches, creases, scuffs, fading, moth nibbles, missing hook and eye closures, sticky zippers, etc.

They may also have been exposed to pets, mothballs or smoking. I do not clean or dry clean the items I pick unless otherwise noted in my listing. I recommend my customers wash or take the item to their trusted dry cleaners before wear. If an item has been washed I will note it in the listing.
Measurements for all garments are taken on the outside of the clothing while it is lying flat then doubled. Please compare the measurements with something you already own to be sure you get a good fit.

To help understand my grading of vintage clothing please reference my chart below:

Mint: Like new or never worn
Excellent: Few to no flaws or issues
Great: Gently worn with minor imperfections expected with age. Items are easily repairable & wearable at time of purchase.
Very Good: May have a minor flaw or two that doesn't alter the overall look, wearability or appeal of the garment. May show more wash/wear and age than Great
Good: A bit more flawed than the above, though generally still wearable, good for everyday casual wearing
