Description

Bel assiette ancienne en porcelaine de Gien dont l'estampille indique qu'elle a été crée entre 1886 et 1938.

Assiette à dessert de par sa taille.

C'est un objet qui a vécu, il y a quelques brèches comme le montre les photos.

------------------------------

Vintage french plate in Earthenware from Gien.
Estimation date is between 1886-1938.

It bears the beginnig of the french proverb on its center, 'Tant va la cruche à l'eau", litteraly " The pitcher that goes one too many time to the well", the ending of the proverb being : "... Qu'à la fin elle se casse", or "...will end up breaking".
One nicer way to put would be : "The pitcher goes so often to the well that it is broken at last.", or "Put not the bucket too often in the well".

The drawing is a direct application of the proverb as you can see too army man (military plate were quite famous back in the day) with a broken pitcher on the floor... So it did end up breaking !

Despite being a very fine piece of tableware, this particular plate was note used for decoration and is quite worn out.

Being 7.8 inches in diameter it is a dessert plate.

Other pictures avalaible on request.
