Description

1800's RUTHERFORD & KAY "BLACK GLASS" Bottle: Heavy and CRUDELY MADE 3-PART MOLD, Hand Formed Lip with "Whittle-Marks" and Bubbles - Whiskey from Edinburgh Scotland

This 1800's bottle is a wonderful example of the old 3-part mold that was used to form some early bottles. The seams are easy to see…the body of the bottle was formed in a cup shaped mold and 2 shoulder molds had the embossing and were hinged to open so that the bottle could be removed while the neck and lip were hand finished. The lip of course was formed by hand with tools. The mold seams stop at the shoulder and the neck shows the stretch marks that denote 1800's bottles.

This bottle has the desirable and wonderful "Whittle-Marks." This means that the bottle was made early in the morning when the metal mold was cold and the molten glass therefore formed marks that looked like "whittled wood" as it interacted with the cold mold. THE MOLD WAS NOT MADE OF WOOD which, of course, would have burned up the minute the molten glass was poured into it.

There are no chips and no cracks. This clean bottle looks beautiful set near a window with the light shining through it.

Rutherford & Kay - Edinburgh Scotland, of course made Whiskey.

The bottle's height is 10 3/8 inches while the base is 3 inches in diameter. The outside diameter of the mouth is 1 inch. This is a heavy bottle of thick glass. It weighs 1 lb. 6 ozs.

Price is $40.00 and very careful wrapping and shipping is $15.00.

Make sure to check the other "Black Glass" 1800's bottles that I have listed.

I gladly refund any shipping charges that exceed the postage and money spent on boxes and packing materials. Of course, I will combine orders to create larger refunds. Your purchases will be shipped within 3 working days.
