Description

NAKED LUNCH

William S. Burroughs

Grove Press, 1959.

SIGNED & inscribed by author.

This book helped define a generation. You can't read any of the Beat authors without constant references to Burroughs. And this book--Naked Lunch--is by far his most important & widely-read book.

Banned upon publication, named as one of the most important books of the 20th century by lots of lists (including Time Magazine), this book has had a cult following since its publication, and a broader influence ever since.

This is a very nice copy in original dust jacket. Dust jacket price is unclipped, showing price of $6.00. This is the fourth printing, of the first American edition. There is a modest horizontal rubbed stripe on both front & rear panels of the jacket, boards show modest wear, pages vi-vii of the introduction are toned, probably from a newspaper clipping having been laid in there once, otherwise fine. Nice bright pages, nice solid binding.

The signature is a personal inscription from 1990, see photo.

This book was original published by Olympia Press, and a signed copy of that is currently being offered by another dealer for $8,500! Although the American edition is more readily available, the book remains one of the high points of 20th century literature, and this edition is the one that would have been read by all those crazy Beats back in the day.
