Description

Antique souvenir notebook. It is rare to find a Grand Tour item with 7 eglomise paintings (miniatures painted on the back of glass). I've never seen one before. Architectural icons of Paris: Arc de Triomphe, Colonne Vendome, Place de la Condorde, Tuileries Palace, Madaleine Cathedral among these. The notebook has a brass pencil that fits along the side and keeps it closed - there is still lead in the pencil.

The body is engraved fleur de lis scroll work, and the back has initials of the person this was gifted to. It's obvious this item has not been handled much over the years. The binding on the notebook is purple velvet.

The notebook's watered red silk lining is in great condition - with only slight wear in a few spots (see photos). The interior pocket contains a paper calendar from the year 1856. The interior pages have blank pages, and on a few pages are printed the days of the week. These days of the week pages are heavier & thicker than the others. Someone has penciled marks on one of the pages (see photo). Faintly in the front of the notebook is written someone's initials - appears to be the initials of the gifter to the giftee and their names. Otherwise the pages are blank.

Then comes the fitted case - amazing! Velvet on the bottom, and silk on the top. The case closes with two small turn clasps, which are still part of the case.

The notebook size: 3-7/8" x 2-9/16" x 1/4".
The case size: 4-3/4" x 3-5/8" x 15/16.
