Description

Doc Mason is a veterinarian living in the hills of New Hampshire. His farm is a stockdog training facility, with 30 to 40 sheep whose job is to train and rehabilitate working sheep dogs. I collect their fleeces, currently 24 Clun Forest and 1 black Cheviot, and have it milled at Battenkill Fibers in Greenwich, New York.

If you are familiar with Doc Mason's Wool, you will see a slight change in this year's spin compared to years prior. The yarn is bouncier and has a looser twist. The fiber is now solely from Doc Mason's Farm : I have been able to make a smaller, more specific batch by changing to a more local mill. I am thrilled to be able to say I know every one of these sheep.

The wool is toasty warm and medium weight, perfect for hats, mittens, and New England style rustic sweaters. It suits many gauges: I like to work it at 4 to 4.5 stitches per inch. There are 210 yards in one 4 ounce skein.
