Description

Get back in the saddle again with this tooled leather Replica Saddle Bag. This bag is a fine example of precision tooling from the horn to the fender and back to the cantle again. This bag was made in Mexico where you find some of the finest examples of tooled leather bags.

This bag is a true miniature saddle crafted with precision and detail. It has all the parts of a real saddle crafted in miniature form. This includes a fork, horn, seat, seat jockey, cantle, Cheyenne Roll, back jockey, skirt, fender, hobble strap, stirrup and more. The leather has a tooled floral pattern. All crafted by an obviously skilled leather artisan.

This saddle functions well as a bag. It includes an antique brass toned closure for the flap over top. The flap itself is lined with a lambs wool like material. The interior compartment is large enough to attend to all normal carrying needs but also has a zipper pocket to store your keys or identification. The exterior has plenty of organizational features as well including a key ring and a mini outside pouch to store coins or other items.

Dimension:

Length: 10.5 inches
Height: 7 inches
Width: 4 inches

Strap drop: 17 inches

Condition:

This bag is in excellent condition. In fact it's like new. It has no holes, tears or rips and is therefore structurally sound. Moreover, unlike most bags over 20 years old that have actually been used it has no scuffs or scratches consistent with periodic use. If it does have scratches I can't see them. If I were to guess where this bag has been most of it's life that guess would be in the owner's closet.

This is a unbranded tooled leather item. It appears to be handmade. When visiting Mexico in the late 70s we saw similar style tooling on bags for sale in shops. Based on our knowledge that tooled leather goods have been hand crafted since the middle ages and companies like Tandy Leather Company have been providing resources to leathercrafters since 1919, along with the design and construction material used, it is our opinion that this leather item was created sometime between the mid 1970s and late 1980s.

About Tooled Leather:

There are a lot of bags out there that are referred to as tooled leather bags. Most traditional manufacturers did not market tooled leather bags.

Tooled Leather is leather that has been worked on with leather tools to carve in a design, pattern, initials or other image for the purpose of decorating the bag.

Tandy Leather Company, has specialized in marketing tooled leather products since 1919 and says on its website that tooled leather goes way back to the Middle Ages and the process of tooling leather was a closely guarded secret kept among Leather Guildsmen who handed it down from father to son who limited their tooling to basic geometric designs. However, when Cortez conquered Mexico in the 16th century Spanish leather craftsmen learned from those they conquered and expanded frin geometric designs to other patterns like flowers and animals. GUARANTEED AUTHENTIC OR ALL MONEY BACK. We understand there are counterfeits and knockoffs of vintage products by well known manufacturers for sale all over the internet and in other market places. We use multiple procedures to assure the products we sell are authentic. One procedure we use is to research authenticity through vintage manufacturer catalogs and to report our research in the listing. Sometimes we include a snippet from the catalog to corroborate our research and educate you about the history of the bag. The purpose of reporting what the manufacturer says about its product in the catalog is to verify our research on the authenticity and to educate you about how a vintage product was portrayed in the past. It is not intended to hold our shop out as a representative of the manufacturer. However, if it turns out we are wrong or our research is not correct we guarantee that if we sell you a product represented to be manufactured by a reputable company like Coach, Cole Haan, Ghurka, Filson, Christian Dior, Hartmann, Gucci, or any other company and you have competent evidence that the product is not authentic we will refund your purchase price and delivery cost. In addition, we will pay for return postage.
