This is a Swiss-made hand carved sculpture of an Edelweiss flower.

It was created by Albert Schild of Interlaken, Switzerland. Albert Schild is renowned for its quality wood carvings and wooden toys. They have been in business since 1898.

I am uncertain of the material of the pin. It does not feel heavy enough to be bone, and is certainly not a modern day plastic. It could be Bakelite (especially since the piece was carved), but I have not tested it.

The pin is an ivory color and the stamen are hand painted in a pale gray blue and a dark mustard yellow with black speckles. This is a very realistic rendering of the edelweiss.

The pin is approximately 3/16" tall (including the height of the pin back), 1 1/2" long and 1 1/8" wide. The original gift box is also included. The box is approximately 5/8" tall, 2" long and 1 1/4" wide. The label on the interior lid reads: Albert Schild Sculptures Interlaken.

The box also has a color picture adhered to its lid. It shows Swiss mountains with edelweiss in the foreground.

The pin is in excellent condition. There are no noted flaws and hardly any wear. The pin back is in excellent working condition.

The box is in very good condition. It shows some yellowing and wear from age.

This is a lovely pin: perfect for a lapel.

A petite piece of art.
