These decorative wooden paddles are hand made by a master woodworker in a small shop located in the Shenandoah valley of Virginia. High quality lumber is cut, sanded, and finished into a beautiful product. Basic light, dark, and natural stains are currently available. All images shown are of actual paddles, currently available in tiger/curly maple.
For those unfamiliar with Tiger Maple:
Tiger maple, also known as flamed maple, curly maple, ripple maple, fiddleback or tiger stripe, is a feature of maple in which the growth of the wood fibers is distorted in an undulating chatoyant pattern, producing wavy lines known as "flames". The “crotch grain” wood occurs (naturally) in the crotch where a tree forks or a big limb comes off. It is caused by wrinkling of the wood fibers as the two limbs both increase in diameter. ... The correct term for this kind of curl in compression wood.
This "flame" pattern is what gives the beautiful stripes in some of the photos above. Each individual paddle is unique and has a unique pattern.
Pricing varies by wood type.
