Description

This pendant reminds me of a walk through an icy forest. It started with a clear raw quartz crystal, to which I added a real twig and copper wire loop. I electroformed around these elements for about 18 hours, building up a thick layer of copper. After forming, I polished the copper, palladium and rhodium plated it. This beautiful white metal finish protects against tarnish. It is sealed with a clear lacquer to further protect the finish. This pendant measures approximately 2" x 1 1/4" x 1/2".

This is an adjustable necklace, able to extend up to 30". It can be easily shortened by sliding the square knot closure up the cords to your desired length. This black knotting cord necklace is finished with 6 silver colored glass beads.

This listing is for the pendant pictured. In my effort to show detail, the pendant is not shown as actual size. Please note that the colors may vary under different lighting conditions and on different monitors. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask me.

Additional policies

As a university trained metalsmith, I make each piece. These days, much of my work is produced by electroforming. This is a metal forming process in which conductive layers of metal are deposited chemically using an electrical current in an electrolytic solution. The layers of metal are built up until the plate is strong and thick enough to be self-supporting. I love the organic, almost ancient look that this process provides in my work. I also carve waxes and cast, sculpt with bronze precious metal clay, hand fabricate and of course-use a torch.

A collector by nature, I have an extensive collection of glass beads, vintage buttons, gemstone carvings, crystals, stones, yarn and pottery. Oftentimes, I incorporate these items into my work. If I know of the material's origin, I will reference it in my description.

My studio name- Why AurumgirlStudio? I've had this name since college. I chose Aurum, which is Latin for gold. I have always been fascinated by gold's symbolism in Art History, as well as it's physical properties. As a noble metal, gold is resistant to corrosion and oxidation. In the history of man, gold has been treasured and used for adornment since ancient times.

Care of your jewelry- In order to keep your item looking it's best, please refrain from chemical exposure. Swimming pools, hot tubs, and cleansers containing chlorine or bromine are highly corrosive to most metals, with the exception of platinum. It is always best to remove your jewelry before bedtime, and spray perfumes and hairspray before putting on your jewelry. Try to keep it away from lotions and other cosmetics. If you need to clean your item, you can gently clean it with Dawn dishwashing liquid or Simple Green cleaner, and rinse it thoroughly in warm water. Knotting cords can also be refreshed in this way. I have applied a clear lacquer finish which extends the new appearance of your item. With time, wear and exposure to skin oils, your item's finish may change. If it is copper, it may darken, appear dull, or develop a blue/green patina. If it is plated, the plating might wear away and you will see a copper color. Please contact me for restoration options. If you mail me an item to restore, please enclose a prepaid postage for return shipping. Thank you!

My work is designed for adults only. Do not leave item unattended with a child as it could be a choking hazard.
