Description

Turkish panel bracelets in this style were first presented in the Turkish Pavilion at the 1889 World Exposition in Paris. Over time, artisans created variations in design, some with the addition of celluloid “stone” embellishments such as the one you see here. The panel bracelet you see here is a fine piece of history, a legacy of the original Silk Road, and the original avant-garde in BoHo chic.

As you would expect of luxury items designed to represent the exotic wonders of Turkey at the Paris World Exposition, these panels feature beautifully detailed images of elephants and the classic Turkish Scimitar with graceful scroll work on the blade. Even the hamsa charm, designed to protect the wearer and ward off the evil eye, is hand cast and hand finished from molten silver.

This particular bracelet can be dated to 1923 by the Turkish National Silver Standard hallmark on the back, the crescent moon with the star inside. This signifies sterling silver wrought shortly after the fall of the last Ottoman Sultan, when modern day Turkey was brand new.

This bracelet measures just over 9 inches in total length, including the chain and hamsa charm for the clasp. The panels alone measure 7 inches, and the charm clasp allows you to extend that comfortably to 8 inches, if needed.

This antique piece is complete with all original panels, chain and charm. For your reference, the hallmark and one of the variations of the bracelet itself are documented in Mr. Fred Rezazadeh's book, Collectible Silver Jewelry, as well as in other volumes on the subject.

**Our fine jewelry is always boxed for shipping.**

Please take your time with the photos and consider them part of the description. This is the actual item you will receive, as-is, exactly as you see here. Please let me know if you have any questions and feel free to check out the many treasures available in my shop!
