Vintage from the 1920s

When the bottle was as fabulous as the perfume!

Houbigant's Le Parfum Ideal was a chic and vibrant floral oriental perfume whose originality made it a great success for many years. And what better way to present such a beautiful fragrance than in a Baccarat crystal perfume flacone.

This early, apothecary-style bottle with a flat-topped stopper is clean - no gilded foil label or cording and a very faint trace of scent - yet it does bear a small paper label on the bottom of the bottle - the Baccarat circle logo of a carafe, goblet and wine glass and the words "Baccarat" and "France".

The bottle is offered along with its floral-printed cotton presentation case (cream, taupe, gold, lavender and brown) lined with a canary yellow silk. The inspiration for the presentation box is believed to be an Oriental carpet design.

The bottle measures 4" high with stopper (3 1/4" without) by 1 9/16" wide by 1 9/16" deep. The clear bottle has a frosted neck and beveled corners and is in very good vintage condition considering its age and use - no breaks, chips, cracks or repairs. There are several nicks at the mouth of the bottle where the stopper fits in (see photo four) and a couple of minute flea bites at the eight-sided rim (these are more felt than seen). Aside from the paper label, it appears the number "22" is etched onto the bottom.

The stopper is in very good condition. The number "22" is etched on the bottom of the dauber as well. There is one minute flea bite on the bottom edge of the dauber and a couple of minute flea bites along the faceted edges of the flat top of the stopper; again, these are more felt than seen.

I would consider the accompanying box in fair condition. The corners are square and tight, with no fabric loss; however, there is some staining and darkening to both the inside and outside. The lid (Houbigant is embossed in gold on the underside) is attached but barely, and the slip-lock latch is missing.

Treat yourself - a beautiful piece to use and enjoy!

Item price includes US Postal Service shipping with Insurance and / or Delivery Confirmation services.
