Description

“You've seen the sun flatten and take strange shapes just before it sinks in the ocean. Do you have to tell yourself every time that it's an illusion caused by atmospheric dust and light distorted by the sea, or do you simply enjoy the beauty of it?”
― John Steinbeck, Sweet Thursday

In Monterey, on the California coast, Sweet Thursday is what they call the day after Lousy Wednesday, which is one of those days that are just naturally bad. Returning to the scene of Cannery Row, the weedy lots and junk heaps and flophouses of Monterey, John Steinbeck once more brings to life the denizens of a netherworld of laughter and tears from Fauna, new headmistress of the local brothel, to Hazel, a bum whose mother must have wanted a daughter.

About

First published in 1954 with this Great Pan paperback coming just four years later in 1958. The original cover price is 2’6.

Condition

Good. This book is almost 60 years old and is looking in great shape. The cover and reverse have just signs of minimal edge and corner buffs. The spine good with no significant reading crease and just a little edge and end bumps. There is a very neat and small name bottom right of the title page but the rest of the pages are clean and intact thanks to s still very good binding. Please take a look at the photographs and don't hesitate to contact us with any questions.
