Description

Irish Claddagh Collection set of 6 designs
Stock #1033
Price $19.00 Unmounted (would be $20.75 if sold separately)

The Irish Claddagh ring design is recorded as early as about 1700, although hands clasping a jewel may go back many centuries. The history of its origin is full of legend and mystery as well as simple practicality. Did an eagle drop the original ring into the bosom of Margaret Joyce as reward for her good deeds? Or is it simply a design that became standardized by the jewelers of the Galway region of Ireland known as the Claddagh?

What we do know is that the traditional motto ‘Let love and friendship reign’ fits well with the design. A crown surmounting a heart symbolizes loyalty, or the ancient meaning of being connected to Divine guidance.

There is also a tradition of wearing the Claddagh ring:
• worn on the right hand with the heart facing out means the wearer has not yet found a lover
• worn on the right hand with the heart facing in means the wearer is betrothed
• worn on the left hand means that love is plighted.
Yet, increasingly, the Claddagh ring has become used as a wedding band, or simply a friendship ring.

These Claddaghs are my original designs inspired by photographs of the earliest examples, now in the National Museum of Ireland, and my imagination.

Stamps are made with the highest quality red rubber, trimmed and available UNmounted (No cushion, no adhesive, no wood mount).

FAQs

My stamps are mass produced for me by Circustamps in California. Red rubber is an old-fashioned material requiring old-fashioned manufacturing methods, yet it is still considered the best, longest lasting material for rubber stamps.

I may be able to help you with your graphic and stamping needs by making a custom sized stamp for you at a custom price. I out-source single stamps at a local business rubber stamp manufacturer, who makes high-quality polymer stamps.

I’ve written a blog post on custom stamps with lots of info at HighlanderCelticStamps.com

Also see my listing for Custom Pet Portraits in the Dog Section.

For other personalized needs please convo me and I'd be happy to answer your questions.
I'm happy to ship anywhere in the World, though I am not responsible for VAT or other import taxes and fees you may incur via your local customs office.
UK Buyers specifically: Anything worth more than £15 which is imported to the UK from a non-EU country is subject to VAT at 20% of the total order value, plus an additional £8 handling fee. You will likely be required to pay this upon receipt of your package. This hefty tax is imposed by your government. Please take this into consideration when making your purchase.
Here's the link to the Royal Mail website for more details: https://www.royalmail.com/sites/default/files/International-customs-charges-leaflet-Jan-2017.pdf
With shipping and fees costs so high, it is helpful to know how to maximize your purchasing power.

You can order up to 8 ounces of product for the same shipping charge. This can be as many as 20 unmounted rubber stamps, even more if they are small. You are welcome to convo me with a list of the stamps you are interested in to make sure the package will not exceed 8 ounces. You will still have the added VAT and handling fees, but the overall cost will be minimized per stamp. I refund excess shipping charges after weighing the package.

I hope this helps.

Mounted stamps - are rubber (or polymer) + cushion + high-quality Eastern Hard Maple wood blocks. They are indexed on top with clear labels.

Unmounted stamps - are trimmed rubber ONLY. These do NOT have any cushion or wood blocks of any kind.
Many stamp artists like to mount their own stamps or use a variety of stamping systems.
Some crafters use the stamps for pottery or other media which requires that the rubber be flexible and/or more washable, thus unmounted is more desirable.
