This is a very unique piece - you don't see fire opal in gold very often.

This is a classic "Princess Diana" style ring, but it was made before this style was popular. The center stone is an oval cut fire opal that measures 7x5 mm. The fire opal is surrounded by 8 single "rough cut" round diamonds that have a combined weight of 0.12 carats. The diamonds have I2-promotional grade clarity and several of the stones have naturals on the tops and sides, which look a bit like small chips by are just natural indentions that still have the texture of a rough diamond. The diamonds have I color so they are white.

Overall this is a unique ring. Due to the cut on the diamonds, I know that it was made some time from the 1960s or 1970s, possible earlier than that, and this style didn't take off until the early 1980s. The ring is in wonderful condition. The fire opal has some small abrasions along the facets, but nothing you can see without a 10x loupe. All the prongs have plenty of wear left.

The inside of the shank is stamped 14k. The ring is a size 6 and weighs 1.9 grams.

The ring is a size 6.

*** It has been pointed out to me that the picture of the inside of the shank looks like it says CZ, but it actually says CI, which is the maker's mark. The stones are in fact diamonds.
