Description

Looking for individuality? Chances are very good that when you walk into the room with your suede Cashin Carry Kisslock Sling Bag no one else will have anything like it. This is an iconic Bonnie Cashin Coach Precreed Bag made in the New York Factory in the 1960s. I have seen it referenced as a 'Sling Loop Bag', a 'Village Bag', and a 'Shimmy Bag'. Regardless what you call this bag it is clearly unique. This bag has the Coach Cashin Carry Tag. Bonnie Cashin's drawings of this bag are found in the a book released last year commemorating the 75th anniversary of Coach and we would be happy to show you our copy of those drawings for edification and authentication purposes.

This bag is a medium size bag made of brown suede leather. It has a brass kisslock pocket on the outside that will accommodate your smart phone, keys and/or wallet. The loop design on top serves as a handle. It has a plaid cloth lining inside.

Dimensions:

Length: 11.5 inches
Height: 20.25 inches
Width: .25 inches

Condition:

This bag is in good used condition but shows some signs of distress. It has no rips, tears or holes on the exterior but the lining has ripped in spots and the leather has some darker areas. However, the hardware works as intended and the bag is structurally sound. The lining needs some repair but the bag can be used as it is. Please see photos for best depiction of condition and ask for more if you need them.

About Bonnie Cashin

Bonnie Cashin (1908 -2000) is considered to be one of the great innovators of modern fashion. While she was still in high school, Cashin began designing costumes for a local dance troupe in southern California, and before long she was in New York City. In 1962, Bonnie Cashin was hired by the then new line of leather handbags, Coach. Cashin applied some of the same principles she used in designing clothing to her designs at Coach. Her handbags were for the modern woman. She used brightly dyed leathers and many had attached purses. She also did matching accessories such as wallets, and as she did in her clothing, she used interesting closures and hardware. Cashin continued to design for Coach until 1974. Throughout her long career, Cashin worked for many different firms, including the Scottish Cashmere company, Ballantyne 1964 – 1968, Crescendoe and Superb gloves, Modelia and Russ Taylor raincoats, and Meyers handbags. In 1972 she started The Knittery, a company that produced knit-to-fit sweaters. In 1977 she started her “Cashin Country” line. Bonnie Cashin retired from designing in 1985. Significance of Made in New York City Coach:

NYC Coach bags are beginning to disappear at an alarming rate. This Coach leather bag is one of the most sought after Coach products by collectors because it is a "New York City Bag". These are some of the highest quality Coach products. "New York City" bags were made in the original Coach factory in New York City that operated from the late 1960's through the mid 1980's. Some, but not all, of the Coach bags produced during this era were designed by the well known American designer Bonnie Cashin. Consequently, when you buy a New York City Coach bag you are buying more than an accessory, you are making a potential investment.

The statement on the creed: "Made in New York City, U.S.A." verifies this bag's origin.

GUARANTEED AUTHENTIC OR ALL MONEY BACK. We understand there are counterfeits and knockoffs of vintage products by well known manufacturers for sale all over the internet and in other market places. We use multiple procedures to assure the products we sell are authentic. One procedure we use is to research authenticity through vintage manufacturer catalogs and to report our research in the listing. Sometimes we include a snippet from the catalog to corroborate our research and educate you about the history of the bag. The purpose of reporting what the manufacturer says about its product in the catalog is to verify our research on the authenticity and to educate you about how a vintage product was portrayed in the past. It is not intended to hold our shop out as a representative of the manufacturer. However, if it turns out we are wrong or our research is not correct we guarantee that if we sell you a product represented to be manufactured by a reputable company like Coach, Cole Haan, Ghurka, Filson, Christian Dior, Hartmann, Gucci, or any other company and you have competent evidence that the product is not authentic we will refund your purchase price and delivery cost. In addition, we will pay for return postage.
