Description

Hattie Carnegie Diamante Rhinestone Clip Earrings; Leaf and Vine Motif, Faceted crystals, Claw-set, Mid Century, signed, Designer, Costumes, Theater Props; Presented is a stunning pair of signed mid century Hattie Carnegie diamante clip earrings. These are faceted, claw-set fine quality rhinestones, cut in clear marquis and gray rose-cut glass, and mounted in bright silver colored metal settings. They are secured, with no apparent flaws to the glass or the settings. I found these during one of my many youthful "adventures" exploring the attic of my family's old brownstone where I was raised. This was over 40 years ago, but I have treasured them and enjoyed wearing them on rare occasions. A few years ago, I became familiar with the extraordinary Hattie Carnegie story and her signature designs. I was very surprised to find the Carnegie signature on this remarkable pair of from all those years ago. I have decided it's time to set them free to become part of someone else's story.

"Hattie Carnegie...was a fashion entrepreneur based in New York City from the 1920s to the 1960s...Her company was revolutionary in the sense that it was one of the first to introduce ready-to-wear to the high-end market. She pioneered the 'head-to-hem' boutique concept that paved the way for the future success of Ralph Lauren in America. Her company discovered some of the most prominent American fashion designers of the twentieth century, such as Norman Norell, Pauline Trigère and James Galanos...she opened the famous Hattie Carnegie boutique at 42 East 49th street, close to the current address of Saks Fifth Avenue. Her shop, at its peak, carried her own 'Hattie Carnegie Couture' collection, Paris couture imports from Chanel, Vionnet and Dior, a fur line, her several ready-to-wear lines under different names, a costume jewelry line, a cosmetic line and even a chocolate line. Her dress designs were a massive success and soon she had such clients as Joan Crawford and the Duchess of Windsor. Hattie Carnegie's colorful clothing and ultra-chic costume jewelry, even today, are greatly sought after by fashion and jewelry collectors...[From Wikipedia].

It has become a new adventure to investigate many of the old treasures I collected back then and see the amazing designs by companies no longer in existence. Here is another treasure found at the same time as these earrings, and in that same brownstone attic:
