Cherry red and Jadeite green, bearing the Texaco star and trimmed in silver chrome, the stylish vintage fuel pump in this Route 66 photo served Illinois travellers for nearly seven decades before she was 'retired' and morphed into an object of roadside beauty instead of 'mere' utility.

Photograph Title: Full Glass

Available Print Sizes:
9x12 with a .75-1.1" white border
11 x 14 with a 1.4-2" white border
Please ask about additional sizes (With its cheery colours, this photo makes for a bright pop on your wall even as a 5x7!).
As Etsy only allows me to list one shipping price, please know that shipping overages for smaller prints will be refunded.

Photograph Orientation: Horizontal
Photograph Taken In: Dwight, Illinois, USA

Straight and tall cherry-red shoulders curve elegantly where they meet a red circle bearing the scarlet Texaco star resting on its green field. A silver chrome half-moon—weathered and a bit dinged, but no less fine for the years—surrounds the indicator bulb in the fuel pump's center, just below the star. If only today's gas pumps were as easy on the eye as this red and green Art Deco-influenced beauty!

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ More About the Ambler-Becker Texaco Station ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

The filling station in front of which this gasoline pump stands was built in 1933 as a Texaco; thus the restoration of Illinois' Ambler-Becker in Dwight pays tribute to Texaco with the green-and-red star motif. The Texaco dispensed fuel to Route 66 motorists until 1999—a precise 66 years of business. The Ambler-Becker is actually one of the longest-operating service stations along Route 66; service work was done here on cars until 2004.

The gas station underwent a restoration during the mid-2000s after Mr. Becker donated it to the city; the charming former Texaco now serves as a visitor center for those travelling Route 66 and visiting Dwight. Even before the restoration, though, the cottage style 1930s filling station was added to the National Register of Historic Places. It now appears much as it did during the 1930s and 40s, fitting right in with the neighborhood around it.

≈ ≈ ≈ ≈ ≈ About Your Limited-Edition Texaco Gas Pump Photograph ≈ ≈ ≈ ≈ ≈

• The limited-edition Route 66 photo you receive will not be watermarked.

• I personally sign & number the back of each art photograph. After 776 prints are made, the edition is closed and the photograph will no longer be available for sale.

• My photographs are professionally printed at the highest resolution on archival photo paper with a matte finish to be smudge, fade, and water resistant.

• Very few of my roadside Americana photographs are a standard print or frame size; thus each print has a slender white border surrounding the photograph itself. This border not only allows you to buy a frame 'off the rack', but serves to lend a bit of additional protection to the actual photograph itself from any serious damage.

• A signed Certificate of Authenticity is included with each photo print.

• Signed photographs are carefully wrapped in acid-free tissue, sandwiched between pieces of foam core, and mailed First Class. Once I have a tracking number, it will be sent to you.

• My monitor is professionally calibrated for colour; therefore, the colours in your received print may be slightly different from what you see displayed online.

Returns and exchange details

It is my desire for you to be entirely happy with your purchase, so I try to keep my policies fair.

If for any reason you are not satisfied with your photo, please contact me within seven business days after receiving the photo print, and I'll work to come to an agreement that we're both happy with. Buyers are responsible for return shipping costs as well as items not returned in their original condition.

Shipping policies

Items will be shipped first-class within three days (smaller prints up to 9x12 generally ship the next day; larger items require a trip to our rural post office and may unfortunately take up to three days to ship). Should I be out of town on a photo shoot or on holiday, I will post this in my shop updates and also note the shipping delay in your emailed invoice.

Your ship-to and payment method addresses need to match. If you're sending the item as a gift to someone else, just let me know in a note at the time you order. If a package is returned to me due to an address error on your part, you will be responsible for the cost of re-shipping the item.

Prints are lovingly packaged very securely and shipped flat, enclosed in acid-free tissue paper, protected by twin pieces of foam core and a Tyvek envelope, all in an attempt to thwart any potential damage during their trip via USPS.

If you'd like insurance, let me know and I am more than happy to acquire it for you and bill you for the amount; usually this is not terribly expensive: about $1 US for an order up to $100.

Should an order be lost or not arrive in a respectable amount of time, we'll do our best to find it together. Ultimately, a lost item will be my responsibility; a replacement print will be sent to you at no cost.

If you prefer a shipping vendor other than the USPS, let me know and we'll work it out. Remember: I want you to be a happy customer.

FAQs

As few of my finished photographs are standard frame size, each of my photographic prints has a white border all the way around the image. This not only means you can buy a frame 'off the rack' if you do not want a custom frame, but the white border does protect the image itself from errant fingerprints or other unintentional damage.
Since these photographs are my own interpretation of the sights as seen by me, I am sorry, but I generally will not make a colour photo black & white or vice-versa. Occasionally during post-production I'll be unable to decide which I like better and publish both, but while it does happen, it's not often, and the image I do release is not arbitrary, but the one I think best suits the subject and composition. Thanks for understanding this.
