Description

3.75 inches tall x 5 inches wide or 9.5 centimeters tall x 12.7 centimeters wide

The Raku cup is ready for your matcha.

A continuation of the new series in the spirit of Modernist Zen. This for matcha Raku tea bowl, chawan, guinomi is of a refined orb shape with abstract expressionist painterly approach to the exterior glazing. Fired in a small kiln with gentle cedar chip reduction, the lines you see are made from the cedar smoke. Very wabi sabi. Feels great in the hands.

Be advised this is a hybrid form Raku. I fire hotter with a compressed and wheel burnished clay body that yields a semi permeable glaze surface and semi-porous clay body (which traditionally was designed for tea ceremony to have a quieter experience with the matcha whisk) that can absorb and weep moisture if left in the vessel for hours. There is no lead or heavy metals to leech in the glaze.

If you make hotter tea (i.e. pouring nearly boiling water into the cup and then adding either a whole leaf tea or tea bag) be aware the heat will condensate some moisture under the foot ring onto the surface of whatever you set it on while it's hot. Although tea by itself is antibacterial, as with the Japanese tradition, you must clean and let to dry after use to reduce any bacterial issues. So you should have no issues if you take care of your ware properly. It will not leak during use. Enjoy.

3 day return period.

I can make Raku or high fired stoneware or porcelain chawan to your exact specifications. Please shoot me a message. **Out of USA, check with me for shipping.

I love these handle makers and wish I could afford to buy them all since I despise pulling handles. So great to have so many shapes to make my pottery pieces more unique.
