Georgiana arranged a few sprays of bleeding heart and ferns in the vase, and she couldn't help but note the bird with a love letter in its beak that nymph-like beauty on the vase seemed to not even notice. "Hmm," she thought, "that letter should be mine, not hers!"

This vase must have some interesting history to share, if only it could speak! This vase dates from the mid to late 1800's and reflects the rising influence of Art Nouveau. There are many sinuous lines and the young woman wears flowing robes, has flowing hair, and is barefoot. She looks to be just perching herself on the edge of a large sea shell with several flowers surrounding it, and a bird seems to have likewise just arrived on the right side of the vase with a letter in its beak.

The vase is about 5.5" tall and about 6" wide and little over 2" deep. Other than wear to the paint, perfectly normal for a piece of this age, there is no damage that I can find, but there are a couple of rough edges here and there that might either be tiny chips or manufacturer's defects; it's hard to tell, but they are very slight. It was likely made in Germany, but bears no mark of the country of origin, not unusual in pieces of this age. It does have incised numbers on the bottom: "893X" and what looks like a "C" with two vertical lines through it.

This is a truly charming an utterly lovely vase. Wouldn't it look lovely on your mantel or dresser or table, perhaps even holding a few love letters?
