Having moxie means having enough cleverness, skill, creativity, & fortitude to solve a difficult or threatening situation.

Word Origin and History:
Etymology sources suggest the earliest record of the word "Moxie" was in New England area where the Abenaki people's used it to mean "dark water". There is a lake, river and waterfall named Moxie. In 1885 there was a medicine patented Moxie, which advertised to "build up your nerve;" In 1930 Moxie was branded as a bitter, soft drink, which is still available in the USA today.
