Description

Beautiful Circa 1900's Vintage White Lawn and Lace Gown!

This vintage dress is beautiful and shows the workmanship of a time gone by. The gown would make a wonderful vintage wedding gown or garden wedding. It dates to the early 1900's and is in amazing condition for being over 100 years old. I don't even know where to begin describing this gown. Please zoom in on all the photos to get a good idea of the detailing. The gown is a combination of lace and white cotton lawn. Let's begin with the wonderful high lace neckline. This lace continues through the upper chest and ends with four (4) large dimensional flowers (see close-up of flower). The lace is done in "V" shapes and alternates with pintucked material. This continues to just above the waistline. The gown is fitted through the waist and hips then falls nicely to the ground. The center portion of the skirt features an openwork and embroidered panel with vertical floral lace edging each side. The sleeves are long and very full at the shoulder/upper arm, then tapered as they approach the wrist. The sleeves are a combination of material, lace and openwork. They end with a ruffle and a point over the hand. The back of the gown also features two (2) flowers approximately shoulder blade level. Again the bodice alternates lace and material. A panel matching the front of the gown begins above the waistline and continues through the skirt. A wide ruffle falls from a zigzag horizontal lace insert. The ruffle again alternates lace and material; however these pintucks are horizonal and much wider than the vertical ones on the bodice. The hemline ends with a small horizontal lace band which encircles the entire hemline. The back has a center button closure which begins at the neckline and continues through the hips. The gown is in very good condition but does have a few areas that would need cleaning (see photos) and an bit of restitching along the hemline.

The gown is being displayed on a modern day store dress form. The dress form measures as follows: bust=34; shoulder to shoulder=12"; waistline=26"; hips=36 and length=59"-60". As seen in the photos, the gown fits perfectly but I would suggest to wear comfortably it would be best to be under these measurements. If you have any questions on measurements, please contact me.
